HOW DO YOU SELECT THE CORRECT MATERIAL(S) FOR YOUR PRODUCT?

Material selection is usually based on the form, fit and function of the product. There are several material to choose from such as:

  • Plastic

  • Nylon

  • Wood

  • Metal

  • Concrete

  • Ceramic

  • Cloth

  • Paper

  • Food

  • Cardboard

  • Rubber

within each material category there are more specific types of materials that can be used like metal (stainless steel, bronze, copper, iron, gold, silver, etc.) the list is very long. Therefore, we don’t have an excuse for not being able to create our inventions, prototypes or manufacturing. The outer material texture of a product/invention can make a significant difference in the functionality and/or marketability. Functionality should be the first priorty when choosing a material for your product/invention
